AGBU Asbeds Honored at the Western Diocese: Requiem Service Held for the Founders of the AGBU

The AGBU Asbeds were honored at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church on Sunday, April 15, 2018.

The day’s celebrant was the Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan, the Cathedral’s pastor. During the service Archbishop Derderian consecrated a cross-stone dedicated to the AGBU Asbeds.

Calling the Asbeds to the nave, Archbishop Derderian blessed them and wished them continued success in their noble endeavors of promoting and preserving the rich heritage of the Armenian people.

Talin Yacoubian, Esq., Chair of the Board of the AGBU Western District Committee along with AGBU Western District Committee Board Members also participated in the service.

A special Requiem Service for the repose of the souls of the founders of the AGBU was held during the service.

“One hundred twelve years ago, the founders of the AGBU, influenced by their unshakable Christian faith and values, found it necessary to transfer the New Armenia, the land of their martyred forefathers, to the upcoming generation. Having heard and acted upon God’s calling, the prominent leaders of the organization established schools and orphanages. For the AGBU, service became the organization’s motto. Inspired by the actions of their predecessors, these values and morals were transferred to the young generation who would later carry on the undying legacy of the founders,” said Archbishop Derderian reflecting on the vision of the founders of the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
