Principal Shahe Mankerian of St. Gregory Hovsepian School To Be Honored March 13

Under the auspices of Abp. Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church and the parish council of St. Gregory Armenian Church of Pasadena, day of celebration has been organized for the principal of St. Gregory Hovsepian School.  On the occasion of his 10th anniversary as principal, Mr. Shahe Mankerian will be recognized for his almost countless achievements.

A credentialed educator who has devoted the last twenty years to the edification of the Armenian student in Southern California, he has brought forward innovated ideas to St. Gregory Hovsepian School since he took the position of principal in 1995. Under his leadership, the school has attained dual accreditations from Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Mankerian holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in English from Cal State L.A.  Each summer he returns to his alma mater to co-direct the Invitational Summer Institute at the Los Angeles Writing Project, where educators share their best ideas about teaching writing and learn from nationally recognized guest speakers.

An award winning poet, playwright and widely-published writer, Mankerian often spotlights the contemporary issues of the Armenian adolescent. He is the winner of Daniel Varoujan Award from New England Poetry Club, a finalist at the William Saroyan Centennial Prize and a two-time nominee for the prestigious Pushcart Prize. He and his wife Yvette have been blessed with a daughter named Areny.

Abp Hovnan will offer a special presentation during Badarak on March 13 (10:30 a.m.) at St. Gregory Armenian Church in Pasadena and will focus his remarks on the accomplishments of St. Gregory Hovsepian School.  The school is currently at capacity.

A luncheon in honor of Mr. Mankerian will take place immediately following services in the parish’s Geragos Hall.  For reservations, please call the School office 626-578-1343 or the parish office 626-449-1523.
