Armenian Community Marks 100th Anniversary of the Victorious Battle of Sardarabad and the First Republic of Armenia

On June 24, 2018, the Armenian-American community of Greater Los Angeles marked the 100th Anniversary of the Victorious Battle of Sardarabad and the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia.

Organized by the Armenian Apostolic, Catholic and Evangelical Churches, the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, the community-wide event was held at the Sexson Auditorium of Pasadena City College.

His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, attended the event and together with the religious leaders of the Armenian Apostolic, Catholic and Evangelical Churches, delivered a message on the significance of the Battle of Sardarabad in the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia. Also in attendance was Joseph Kanimian, Esq., Chairman of the Diocesan Council and member of the Supreme Spiritual Council.

The evening featured a flag ceremony mixed scout Troup flag bearers and included performances by Gagik Badalyan, Salbi Mailyan, Harut Hakobyan, “Ani,” and “Zvartnots” Dance Ensembles, the Hamazkayin “Sayat Nova” Choir.
