Divine Liturgy on the Feast of St. Gheovont the Priest New Diocesan Youth Tradition Established: 45 Young Adults Take Oath to Service

With the participation of the Diocesan Clergy and faithful, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at St. Leon (Srbots Ghevontiants) Armenian Cathedral on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. on the occasion of the Feast of St. Ghevont the Priest and his Companions (Ghevontiants).

At the invitation of the Primate, the celebrant was the Rev. Fr. Yeghishe Ksachikyan, Pastor of St. James Armenian Church of Sacramento. The Rev. Fr. Hovel Ohanyan, Pastor of St. Vartan Armenian Church of Oakland delivered the homily.

Earlier this year, a beautiful tradition engaging the youth in the life of the Armenian Church was established by the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian at the Annual ACYO Assembly in San Francisco.

Themed Christian Faith  and Motherland, each year, during the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on the Feast of Ghevontiants, young adults would take an oath to selflessly serve the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Motherland and embrace and uphold the sanctity of the Armenian Christian Family.

In a ceremony led by the Primate and clergy, 45 young adults from parishes across the Western Diocese took the oath, vowing to serve the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Motherland with unrelenting dedication and enduring affection. Certificates of Recognition were distributed to the participants.

This beautifully moving ceremonial tradition will carry over to all Diocesan parishes each year on the Feasts of Vartanants and Ghevontiants.
