Hamazkayin Celebrates Maestro Ohannes Tchekidjian’s 90th Birthday

Hamazkayin Western Region celebrated Maestro Ohannes Tchekidjian’s 90th birthday on March 22, 2019 with a cultural program at the Glendale Public Library Auditorium.

The Primate attended the event and in his benediction, His Eminence reflected on Maestro Tchekidjian’s tremendous impact in the world of choral music. “Dear Maestro, your humble personality coupled with your professionalism and mastery of music has truly defined your Christian character. For decades, you have inspired us and have spread the love of God to our people through the gift of song. As a world-renowned artist, you have moved us, captivating our hearts and souls with your expertise. Throughout your artistic journey, you have remained dear and loyal to the sacred cultural heritage of our people and for that we owe you a debt of gratitude,” said Archbishop Derderian in part.

Distinguished conductor, musician and composer, Maestro Ohannes Tchekidjian has been the artistic director and chief conductor of The State Academic Choir of Armenia since 1961. He has performed in 184 major cultural centers of the world including Paris, London, New York, Moscow and St. Petersburg, and also in various cities of the world. All 69 first-class symphonic orchestras, including The Academic State Symphonic Orchestra of the USSR, The Academic Symphonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg, Orchestra of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater have been on the stage under the direction of Maestro Tchekidjian.
