The Christian Education Council held their annual Lenten Workshops for all Sunday schools this past month. This year, the CEC Director, Gail Chelebian, and Clergy Lead, Fr. Krikor Zakaryan, traveled across California to provide the workshop in 5 locations:
- Fresno (St. Paul Armenian Church)
- Van Nuys (St. Peter Armenian Church)
- Oakland (St. Vartan Armenian Church)
- Burbank (St. Leon Armenian Cathedral)
- San Diego, via Facebook Live (St. John Garabed Armenian Church)

All local Sunday schools were invited to attend the workshop closest to them, and the attendance was record breaking. For the first time, the CEC held the workshop on Facebook Live so that the San Diego students could participate.
This year’s workshop centered on giving children an understanding of the significance of MAUNDY THURSDAY in the life of Jesus as well as our Armenian Church. The students experienced a “children’s” version of the “Khavaroom’ service and every child in attendance participated in the foot washing ceremony, which was done by our clergy lead, Fr. Krikor Zakaryan. It was truly one of the most meaningful and interactive events we have held and we were so pleased with the number of families who joined us.
We are grateful to all CEC Board members who assisted with the workshops and wish to thank all of the above host parishes for their support, organization, and for providing us with the workspace to make our workshops the success that they were. The CEC looks forward to heading up to Hye Camp this summer to meet again with the youth of our Sunday schools.
Faithfully,
Gail Chelebian
CEC Director
