St. Kevork Armenian Apostolic Church of Portland Celebrates Feast of St. Kevork the Warrior with 40 Pilgrims from the Seattle Parish

On September 28, 2019, in observance of the Feast of St. Kevork the Warrior, St. Kevork Armenian Apostolic Church of Portland hosted a prayer service and meal for local parishioners and a group of 40 visiting parishioners from the Holy Resurrection Armenian Apostolic Church of Seattle. The sanctuary was filled to capacity as the combined attendance of over 100 faithful, joined in prayer and fellowship.

The Ladies’ Society of St. Kevork provided a true Armenian dining experience, featuring lamb and traditional dishes and pastries. The Seattle parish contributed musical talent, fellowship, and good will to the event, the latter evidenced by their time commitment of several hours of travel to the City of Portland. As always, they have shown their abiding friendship and nurturing of our newer and smaller community, which has lifted us through the years, and for which we are grateful always.

A special co-officiated service was conducted by the Rev. Fr.  Mashdots Keshishian, Pastor of St. Kevork Armenian Church of Portland and the Rev. Fr. Vazken Boyajyan, Pastor of Holy Resurrection Armenian Church of Seattle. The priests were assisted by Deacons Kevork Demirjian and Varoujan Gazarian of Portland, and Deacon Antranik Avtandilov of Seattle.

Following the service, diners not only enjoyed a delicious meal and camaraderie, but also extemporaneous dancing and singing, which was greatly appreciated by all. The atmosphere was very warm, and everybody had a very good time. St. Kevork Armenian Apostolic Church extends once again heartfelt thanks to their own Ladies’ Society and the Seattle parish for the continuing support, fellowship, and harmony they provide for our community. In addition, this event could not have been possible without the continuing support of the Western Diocese and the guidance of the Diocesan Primate His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, who suggested many years ago that the Seattle and Portland parishes work together to build their communities.

The joy and fellowship of this shared event and many others over the past ten years provide ample evidence of the benefits of our two parishes’ love and support for one another.
