The Western Region of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) hosted its Annual Gala Banquet on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America and Mexico was honored with the Khrimian Hayrig Award, given by the ANCA-WR to clerical figures who have dedicated their lives in service to the Armenian Nation and Cause, in the spirit of the award’s inimitable namesake.Â
The ANCA-WR also honored U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu with the Legislator of the Year Award, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger with the Woman of the Year Award and Araksya Karapetyan with the Excellence in Media Award. The Gala also featured a special Tribute to lifelong benefactor and philanthropist Hacop Baghdassarian.
The Primate's Message of Gratitude
Certificates of recognition were presented to the Diocesan Primate from government, state and city officials including Congressmember Adam Schiff, Congressmember Judy Chu, Congressmember Linda Sanchez, Congressmember Brad Sherman, California State Senator Anthony Portantino, California State Assemblymember Laura Friedman, California State Assemblymember Chris Holden, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian and Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang.
