Visiting the elderly has been a revered Diocesan tradition. On January 3, 2020, H.E. Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, accompanied by Diocesan clergy visited the residents of Ararat Home in Mission Hills on the blessed occasion of the Feast of the Nativity and Theophany of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The day’s celebrant was the Rev. Fr. Yeremia Khachatryan, visiting priest to Ararat Home. Following the service, the clergy performed the traditional Blessing of the Water Service and distributed Holy Communion to the residents and staff.
In his message to the elderly, Archbishop Derderian said "Proclaiming the Miraculous Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ brings spiritual joy to our hearts. Our ancestors lived their lives with that strong conviction that God was with them. That notion gave them strength and confidence to build the Fatherland and the Church, to create spiritual values and missions, high moral standards and culture, science and arts. They have created a great future for the generations to come, for they knew that God was with them.”
Words of gratitude were expressed to the Primate and the clergy by Joseph Kanimian, Esq., Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ararat Home, who reflected on the years of compassionate pastoral care and guidance for the residents.
