IAFA and AGBU Glendale and Pasadena Chapters Commemorate the 101st Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

Under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, the Iraqi Armenian Family Association in collaboration with the Pasadena and Glendale Chapters of the AGBU held a cultural event on April 17, 2016 commemorating the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Held at the Geragos Hall of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church in Pasadena, the event was attended by clergy, His Excellecy Valery Mkrtumyan, the Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Vartan Gharpetian, member of the Glendale City Council, and Dr. Raffi Balian, Chairman of the U.S. West Coast Regional Committee, Mr. Tomik Alexanian, Chief Operating Officer of the Armenian Society of Los Angeles and nearly 150 people. The event’s keynote speaker was Nora Hovsepian, Esq., Chair of the Armenian National Committee Western Region. The program included a presentation of a short documentary titled “Journey to the Homeland.”

In his remarks, the Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian extended the Primate’s blessings to the organizers commending their Christian spirit in honoring the memory of the 1.5 million canonized saints. Archpriest Fr. Sarkis Petoyan, Pastor of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church was also in attendance.

Proceeds from the event were allocated to the families of the fallen Armenian soldiers who perished while defending the Homeland.
