Today, the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian wrote a letter to President Donald Trump. In it, Archbishop Derderian expressed his deep concerns over "the ongoing military aggression perpetrated by Azerbaijan against the peaceful Armenian population of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) and the Republic of Armenia proper."
"The ongoing onslaught is a war crime, international terror and a direct violation of human rights.
For us, the Armenian people, the first Christian nation on Earth who suffered the first genocide of the 20th century, it is an existential obligation to safeguard our historic and ancestral homeland, the cradle of civilization.
As Armenian Americans, we call upon you, Honorable President Trump, to act immediately without hesitation in halting the Azeri aggression and Turkey’s interference in the region. Turning a deaf ear and a blind eye may result in a full scale regional and even more so, a global conflict," wrote Archbishop Derderian in part.
A request for an urgent phone conversation with the President has also been made.Â
