With the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Diocesan Primate,Ā a three-day lent and fasting period in support of the Armenian soldiers in the front lines in Artsakh was announced at the Western Diocese last week.
This Lenten period commenced on Friday, October 23 at 9:00 a.m. and concluded on Sunday, October 25, with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy.
On Friday from 9:00 p.m. to midnight, a special prayer vigil was held at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral (3325 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank) in memory of the martyred soldiers and for those valiant men and women who are in the front lines defending our homeland.
The service wasĀ presided by the Diocesan Primate H.E. Abp. Hovnan Derderian with the participation of the reverend clergy of the Western Diocese. Ā
Special prayers hadĀ been selected for the fasting (Lenten) period and were recited three times daily at 9:00 a.m., at 3:00 p.m., and at 7:00 p.m., respectively.
The Western Diocese encouraged the faithful to donate the funds saved from the fasting (Lenten) period to Armenia Fund for humanitarian relief.
