The Association of Armenian Church Choirs of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America (AACCWD) under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian held a master class on “The Integral Role of the Armenian Church Choir within the Divine Liturgy” at St. James Armenian Apostolic Church on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

Choir members, deacons, reverend clergy, and churchgoers from the Los Angeles area as well as surrounding cities participated within the class as well as over a hundred individuals via Facebook.

Guest lecturer, Very Rev. Fr. Daniel Findikyan gave a presentation on the ten most important components of the liturgy followed by a presentation on the role and key components of the variable hymns and structures of the badarak. During the second half of the class Very Rev. Fr. Pakrad Berjekian gave a lecture on the angels found within the liturgical scriptures. Ms. Alenoush Yeghnazar followed with a presentation of the many variable versions of “Der Voghormia”. Attendees were presented with sheet music of the variable versions and were also encouraged to visit the online music library on the AACCWD website.

The presentations by our guest speakers were videotaped and can be found on the AACCWD website. We thank all those who participated and would like to see the continuing development of AACCWD’s continuing education efforts.
