Primate Attends Commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of the Heroic Battle of Mousa Dagh

Hosted by the Mousa Ler Association of Southern California at the Jivalagian Youth Center in Pasadena, on September 13, 2025, the Diocesan Primate attended the Commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of the heroic battle of Mousa Dagh. In 1915, the people of Musa Ler united to defend their homeland and rights. Despite having only 600 fighters, they organized the defense of the mountain and resisted thousands of Turkish forces for months.

After heavy fighting in August, the Turks tried to starve the Armenians by besieging the mountain. However, the Musa Ler people, rejecting all ultimatums, continued the struggle. In September, French warships came to their rescue, and about 4,000 people were transferred to Port Said.

The defenders of Musa Dagh became the first enlisted men of the Armenian Legion, who shone in the Battle of Arara in 1918. A monument dedicated to the heroic battle was erected in 1976 in the Mus Ler settlement of Echmiadzin.

The heroic battle of Musa Dagh remains a symbol of the endurance and love of freedom of the Armenian people.
