Transformation Rooted in Legacy: Dr. Hratch Tchilingirian explains Western Diocese’s renewed Mission and Vision for Its Second Century

The Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church has embarked on a transformative journey, since June last year, to shape its next century.

In a interview published in Massis Post, Asbarez, and featured in Darperag 21, Dr. Hratch Tchilingirian, Director of the Institutional Innovation initiative, outlined a strategic roadmap designed to modernize the Diocese’s programs, renew its spiritual mission, and strengthen its cultural relevance. “We must be spiritually vibrant, culturally relevant, and socially responsive,” he emphasized, calling for a renewed commitment to faith that meets the needs of today’s communities.

The initiative centers on inclusive dialogue, leadership development, youth engagement, and digital transformation. It invites clergy, laity, and experts to co-create a future rooted in Armenian heritage while embracing innovation. “This is not just about change,” said Dr. Tchilingirian, “it’s about clarity of purpose and empowering our communities to thrive.”

As the Diocese prepares to mark its centennial, this visionary effort is a bold step, under the leadership of the Primate, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, toward institutional renewal and engagement with the communities spread in the Western United States.
