The Cross of the Lord was found so that we too may find our way to God
The Feast of the Discovery of the Holy Cross reminds us of the day when the Cross of Christ - the symbol of humanity’s salvation - was revealed to the world once again, bringing hope and peace. Yet this feast is not merely a remembrance of the past; it is a living invitation to each of us to find our own cross and transform it into a source of salvation. This holy day symbolizes that moment in our spiritual life when we, too, discover our cross - the divine mystery hidden within our trials, sorrows, and struggles.
Today, on the Feast of the Discovery of the Cross, our souls lift their gaze to the Cross that was once lost but, through God’s mercy, was found again. The saving Cross of the Lord is not merely a piece of wood, but an eternal reminder that the Lord never forgets His people. It appears as light in the darkness, as hope in moments of despair, and as victory after passing through suffering.
On our life’s journey, we all carry our own cross. At times it feels heavy - filled with pain, loss, and uncertainty. Sometimes we feel unable to bear it, yet it is precisely in those moments that the power of faith is born. When the cross remains only pain, it breaks us; but when it is transformed into love and trust toward God, it becomes a blessing.
The Cross teaches us that God’s path is always guided by love, though it often passes through trials. When we are broken, when longing overwhelms us, when loneliness surrounds us, the Cross reminds us of the beautiful prophecy of Isaiah: “For the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our ruler, the Lord is our king; he will save us.” (Isaiah 33:22)․ These prophetic words are not only a comfort but a confirmation that our salvation is secured in the Lord. They are light in the darkness - a testimony that God never leaves His children alone. He walks with us on our path of the Cross, inspiring and strengthening us.
The Feast of the Discovery of the Cross is thus a call to rediscover our faith, to renew our trust, and to illuminate our life’s path with the light of the Cross. Let it be a reminder that even when we are far from our loved ones, even amid hardships, we always remain under the loving and fatherly gaze of the Lord.
May this feast revive within us the hope that every pain carries its transformation, and every cross its resurrection. May this day fill our hearts with peace, our souls with hope, and our lives with renewed strength - for the Cross of the Lord was found so that we too may find our way to God, saying: “Lord, strengthen us to carry our cross in the light of faith, for You are our Father and our Savior.”
