The Diocese

On April 23, 2015, we rejoiced as a nation when the 1.5 million martyrs of the Armenian Genocide were canonized in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, unfolding an unprecedented event of ecclesiastical and national importance.
On Sunday, December 27, during the Divine Liturgy at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral, the Diocesan Primate H.E. Archbishop Hovnan Derderian presided over a special ceremony in which he consecrated a replica of the Icon of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide—the original of which was unveiled last April, during the canonization service at Holy Etchmiadzin. Archbishop Derderian was assisted at the Holy Altar by the Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian, the Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan and the Deacons of the Cathedral Parish.
The Western Diocese had the replicas printed on canvass, and every parish received its copy, with instructions to have it for display as a permanent feature of the sanctuary.
