Mer Hooys Welcomes New Residents

On August 23, 2016, Mer Hooys welcomed 8 new girls as residents of the Nakashian Children’s Support Center. Hamest, Lia, Kristine, and Mariam are sisters coming from a family of 10 children whose home in Yerevan was recently destroyed by fire. Manush and Anush are twin sisters from Nubarashen. Mariam K. is from Abovyan city. Vika is the youngest sister of our other set of twins Jemma and Dianna.  Two more young girls are scheduled to arrive once their paperwork has been completed, resulting in a total of 17 young girls and 5 girls ages 17 and older.  Three of the older girls are now attending universities in Armenia.

Mer Hooys staff and current residents welcomed the new group of young girls with hugs, words of encouragement, and gift bags. All of the new girls will have the opportunity to visit regularly with their living parent or parents, under supervision of Mer Hooys social worker Gayane Saribekyan. Family reunification is one of the goals of the Mer Hooys program. Mer Hooys Board is excited for our new residents and looking forward to working with them during the coming years.
