September 21, 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia. It was a quarter century ago when the Armenian people demanded sovereignty and with nearly a unanimous vote, succeeded from the Soviet Union. Millions of Armenians in the Motherland and the Diaspora will celebrate the milestone in our nation’s history.

At the Primate’s directive, on Sunday, September 18, at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, all parishes of the Western Diocese held a Special Prayer for the Republic of Armenia (Hanrabedagan Maghtank).
On Sunday, September 25, 2016, on the Feast of the Holy Cross of Varak, at 10:30 a.m., the Diocesan Primate will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral. The 25th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia will be celebrated during the service.
Among the dignitaries in attendance will be the Armenian Ambassador to the United States in Washington, D.C. His Excellency Grigor Hovhannissian. At the conclusion of the service, on the auspicious occasion, Prayers for the Republic of Armenia (Hanrabedagan Maghtank) will be offered.
Along with the participation of the AGBU Western District Committee, the Blessing of the Flag service which will be brought forth to the Holy Altar by the AGBU Scouts will be performed.
All faithful are invited to attend the service and celebrate the momentous occasion in our nation’s history.
