Saturday, November 12th will mark the official opening of the new St. Nersess Seminary campus in Armonk, New York with His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, officiating over the ceremonies.
This historic event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the ribbon cutting of The Karekin I Theological Center and the Consecration of the Chapel followed by a program, when His Holiness will deliver his message. Immediately after the program, guests are invited to a reception and fellowship to celebrate the opening of the only Armenian seminary in western world.
Established in 1961 through the vision of Archbishop Tiran Nersoyan, its first Dean, St. Nersess was originally in Evanston, IL then moved to New Rochelle, NY. In 2012, the Board of Directors approved the purchase of the current 5.5-acre property to build a new seminary to support its expanded student body and mission. Mr. and Mrs. Haig and Elza Didizian graciously donated the land as well as the 8,400 square foot Chapel and Karekin I Theological Center, which includes an extensive state-of-the-art library, classrooms, offices and chapel built in Armenian-style architecture.
Over the past three years and with the generous support of Armenians both abroad and in North America, the new campus has been completed and includes, in addition to the theological center, four buildings that house separate single, married and faculty residences, a dining facility, a dean’s residence, and a recreation complex. In addition to the blessing and ribbon cutting by His Holiness, each building and individual room and several gardens on the property will be blessed by His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese, and by priests from several parishes across America. Dozens of donor families will be present to take part in these ceremonies along with current seminarians, graduates of the seminary, and summer conference participants. This event is open to the public.
Guests will be directed to offsite parking with shuttle service provided; please allow ample time. Space is limited and RSVPs are required; please call 914-273-0200 or email info@stnersess.edu. St. Nersess Seminary is located at 486 Bedford Road, Armonk, NY.
