Primate Pays Pastoral Visit To The Mexican-Armenian Community

From October 11-12, 2016, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, the Diocesan Primate paid a pastoral visit to the Mexican-Armenian community. As the spiritual leader of the community, Archbishop Derderian met with prominent members of the community on October 11, 2016. A reception in honor of the Primate was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Davis and Sonia Arakelian Davis shortly after His Eminence’s arrival. This was the Primate’s fifth pastoral visit to the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Mexico since its transfer to the Western Diocese nearly two years ago.

During his pastoral visit, Archbishop Derderian also met with His Eminence Georges Saab Abi Younes, Eparch of the Maronite Catholic Eparchy of Our Lady of the Martyrs of Lebanon in Mexico as well as His Excellency Arayik Ayvazyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in Mexico and his spouse Gayane.

The Diocese of the Armenian Church of Mexico was transferred to operate under the jurisdiction of the Western Diocese on November 21, 2014.  The historic transfer was made official by the Pontifical Encyclical (number 877) of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
