A private premiere screening of the documentary film “Crows of the Desert” was presented at Woodbury University’s Fletcher Jones Foundation Auditorium by the Western District of the Armenian General Benevolent Union on Sunday, October 23, 2016.
Archbishop Derderian attended the screening which follows a hero’s journey through the Armenian Genocide. His Eminence commended the outstanding work of the filmmaker, the directors, and producers.
In his remarks, the Primate reflected on the remarkable role of the Turpanjian Foundation and especially the film’s executive producer Paul Turpanjian in realizing the immense project of shedding light on the first genocide of the 20th century through film.
“Through the gift of the Christian Faith, the Turpanjians have inspired Armenians around the world with deeds of virtue, which are received with gratitude and admiration,” said Archbishop Derderian. Tonight’s film is certainly the fulfillment of the vision of Paul Turpanjian, who has graced us with the powerful message to pay homage to the martyred saints of the Armenian Genocide, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their ancestral Christian Faith and heritage,” continued His Eminence.
Archbishop Derderian also expressed his gratitude to the AGBU Western District for organizing the important function.
The screening was followed by a post-screening panel discussion with the filmmaker Dr. Carla Garapedian, director/producer Ms. Marta Houske, professor and director of Armenian Studies at CSUN Dr. Vahram Shemmassian and the film’s executive producer Mr. Paul Turpanjian.
The panel discussion was followed by a reception.
