OIA Marks 10th Anniversary of Hrant Dink’s Martyrdom

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the ruthless assassination of Hrant Dink, chief editor of "Agos" Armenian weekly newspaper. Dink’s assassination on January 19, 2007, sent a shockwave and sparked outrage in Armenian communities in the Diaspora.

On January 22, 2017, the Organization of Istanbul Armenians (OIA) organized an evening of remembrance and honored the legacy of the beloved writer and editor. The Primate attended the event which was held at the Krikor and Avet Kurkcuoglu Hall of the OIA Headquarters. His Eminence Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian was also in attendance joining the leaders and representatives of the Armenian Apostolic, Catholic and Evangelical Churches, community leaders, and members of Armenian organizations in commemorating the undying legacy of the fallen hero.  

During the event, Mr. Aris Nalci, Former editor of “Agos” weekly and Program Editor of IMC TV was presented the Hrant Dink Spirit of Freedom and Justice Medal.

In his remarks, the Primate thanked the OIA for organizing the event, stressed the importance of commemorating the memory of the true hero, Hrant Dink, as a martyr for the cause of liberty, justice, freedom of speech and individual rights. “Hrant Dink was a champion of justice and freedom,” said His Eminence. “His unique personality has truly inspired not only our youth and communities but equally the justice-seeking population of Turkey and communities in Europe,” he added.
