Feast Of St. Vartan And His Companions At St. Leon Armenian Cathedral

On Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian presided over the Divine Liturgy at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral. The faithful joined the Diocesan clergy of the greater Los Angeles Area in observance of the feast at the spiritual center of the Western Diocese.

The day’s celebrant priest was the Rev. Fr. Avedis Abovian, Pastor of Holy Resurrection Armenian Church in La Crescenta.

The Feast Day commemorates the saint martyrs of the Battle of Avarayr, where St. Vartan lead 1036 knights in to battle against the Persian Army in defense of the Armenian Christian faith.

Prayers of Pontifical Service (Hairabedagan Maghtank) was offered during the service on the occasion of the Naming Day of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
