It was an evening of Prayer and Fellowship on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 as St. Apkar Armenian Church of Scottsdale, Arizona hosted an annual ecumenical service of prayer. Sponsored by The Arizona Faith Network, the evening service began at 7:00 pm with an entrance of altar boys and area clergy members within the community. The event encouraged Christians to pray for unity, joining in the never-ending prayer of Jesus in John 17:21, “that they all may be one.” Each clergy member that attended offered their own unique perspective of what it meant to be unified in Christ.
The sanctuary was filled with parish members from various parishes. With their angelic voices, the Choir of St. Apkar performed beautiful renditions of the liturgical chants. Prior to the conclusion of the service, everyone prayed together and sang a closing hymn.
The event allowed for all who attended, to set aside their differences and pray together for the renewal of the fellowship that we share in Christ. A light food and beverage reception followed the service in the Melikian Hall. Clergy members present: His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Rev. Fr. Zacharia Saribekyan, Rev. Brad Munroe, Rev. Fr. Andrew J. Barakos, Bishop Steven Talmage, Pastor Sarah Stadler-Ammon, Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, Ms. Billie Fidlin, Rev. Michael L. Diskin, Rev. Dr. Bill Lyons and Mr. Gerrit Steenblik.
