“The Holy Week and the Christian”
I have often spoken about the significance of Holy Week in the life of a Christian. Countless theologians, priests, professors and ministers have spoken about the Holy Week and what it implies in their lives. Furthermore, there will never be an end to the number of interpretations and explanations because Holy Week does not speak only about the past but it actually mirrors our God-given lives today. There cannot be a Holy Week without the living world. The truth about the life of Christ, our Lord and Holy Week lies in the following.  Each year when we celebrate Holy Week, we make a new journey with Christ our Lord into the Holy City of Jerusalem. We walk with Him and witness the many images which reflect the spirit of the ministry and mission of our Lord. One particular image which has caught my attention is that of Christ’s cleansing of the Temple. At the time, when Christ spoke about the cleansing of the temple and rebuked all those who turned the House of God into a house of trade, our Lord certainly spoke about the fact that the cleansing of the human body, symbolizing the living temple of God, ought to be cleansed.
As we continue our journey with Christ, we then celebrate the Last Supper, which is repeated in the celebration of the Divine Liturgy Sunday after Sunday, reminding us all about the sacrificial life of Christ for the salvation of humanity. I cannot imagine life without sacrifice.
A life without sacrifice is emptied in itself and can never be joyful. True joy is lived when we bring light to the heart of our fellow brothers, sisters and friends.
During Holy Week, one of the most fascinating aspects of Christ’s life has been humility in its purest sense as Christ knelt and washed the feet of His disciples. Today, we wash the clean and pure feet of our children. Christ, our Lord, however, washed the muddy feet of His disciples, thus, giving us all a clear message to live a humble life.
As we walk through the journey of Holy Week, we then understand the root of love and sacrifice of our parents when we see the sufferings and the crucifixion of Christ for the children of the world.
Finally, the Resurrection continues to be the miracle of the world which to this day transforms the life of humanity. We should never allow ourselves to explain the Resurrection in words. Christ’s Victorious Resurrection can only be lived and grasped through our faith life. The spirit of the Resurrection can only be the movement of our heart and soul which also needs to be reflected in lifestyle.
Therefore, let us all be imitators of Christ.
