Community outreach and the sponsorship of the annual nutrition cost of a kindergarten in Armenia was the purpose of the Summer Luncheon organized by the Ladies Guild of St. Leon Armenian Cathedral on June 1, 2017.
The “Rococo Room” of Santorini Restaurant in Pasadena was the prestigious venue of the event.
Welcoming remarks were made by Araxie Boyamian Chair and emphasized the vitality of the new mission of sponsoring The Kindergarten Project of Echmiadzin Children’s Fund. Benefits from the event were allocated toward sponsoring the yearly nutrition cost of St. Grigor Narekatsi spiritual and cultural center in Qarakert village of Armavir region in Armenia.
The Rev. Fr. Avedis Abovian, Pastor of Holy Apostles Armenian Church in Crescenta Valley, represented the Diocesan Primate. Father Abovian commended the Ladies Guild for adopting the worthy cause and reaching out to the children of Armenia. He also thanked Mr. and Mrs. Vasken and Karine Haitayan for sponsoring the luncheon and behalf of the Primate, presented a gift to Mrs. Haitayan symbolizing the tree of life.
Rev. Fr. Avedis commended the efforts of the committee for its dedication throughout the years, noting the generous contributions to such missions as the Stewardship Program for clergy education and the Archbishop Hovnan Derderian Scholarship Fund.

St. Leon Armenian Cathedral' Ladies Guild members are Araxie Boyamian, (Chair,) Lena Dekermenjian, Hourie Boghossian, Sima Hovanessian, Salpi Mankerian, Karine Haitayan, Shoghig Vartzbedian, Vanian Gordian, Silva Nazaretian, Talin Telian, Sonia Vartanian, Esther Minassian, and Mari Garabedian Boghossian.
The guests enjoyed delicious gourmet meals and were entertained by Element Band Director Ara Dabanjian who performed Armenian popular music.
Also present at the luncheon Diocesan benefactress Mrs. Alice Navasargian.
