Primate Celebrant at Saghmosavank in Armenia

The Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian was the celebrant bishop at Saghmosavank on Sunday, June 18, 2017. The day was significant as it marked the 10th anniversary of ordination and consecration of twelve priests who were ordained by His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian.

The Rev. Fr. Hovel Ohanyan, Pastor of St. Vartan Armenian Church, who was also ordained by Archbishop Derderian in 2007, also participated in the service.

Saghmosavank (Monastery of the Psalms) is a 13th-century Armenian monastic complex located in the village of Saghmosavan in the Aragatsotn Province of Armenia.

Like the Hovhannavank monastery which is five kilometers south, Saghmosavank is situated atop the precipitous gorge carved by the Kasagh River. Their silhouettes dominate the adjacent villages and rise sharp against the background of the mountains crowned by Mount Aragats.
