AGBU Western District Hosts 2017 Gala

The Western District of the Armenian General Benevolent Union hosted its annual gala on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Globe Theater in Universal Studios, Hollywood. The gala’s honoree was longtime AGBU supporter and Central Board member Dr. Yervant Zorian.

The Diocesan Primate attended the gala and delivered the invocation. In his message printed in a commemorative booklet, the Primate reflected on the rich history of the AGBU, congratulated the honoree and commended the organizers of the event. “AGBU has been one of the noblest institutions in our nation’s life. Since its inception in 1906, the AGBU has fulfilled countless missions and projects for the betterment of our communities in Armenia and in Diaspora. Its history is rich but above all, most enlightening for our youth to connect their lives to our ancestral Motherland Armenia. This organization has been an advocate of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in our efforts to preserve our Christian Faith. The AGBU has also been instrumental in promoting our cultural life and the preservation of our language, be it in Armenia or the Diaspora,” wrote His Eminence.

Reflecting on the contributions of Dr. Yervant Zorian, the Primate wrote “Dr. Zorian’s commitment to revealing the technological prowess of the Armenian people has been most evident in his leading role in Silicon Valley. He is the Chief Architect at Synopsys Inc. and President of Synopsys Armenia which has been investing in local IT education since 2004 to help provide Armenia with highly qualified IT specialists.

Dr. Zorian holds 37 U.S. patents, has authored five books and has published over 350 papers, many of which have won distinguished awards. Dr. Zorian is the 2014 recipient of the Republic of Armenia’s National Medal of Science.

Dr. Yervant Zorian is also a devout parishioner of St. Andrew Armenian Church of Cupertino. He has earned the love and respect of his parish family for his humble Christian spirit, which has been an inspiration and a blessing to all who know him personally.”
